With over ten years experience in Hong Kong of teaching English as a second language (TESOL) in school classrooms, learning centres, and tutoring in private homes, I have the experience necessary to identify students' weaknesses and help them gain the skills and confidence they require to thrive in their academic endeavours.
During this time I was also helping Hong Kong officers in the Police Force, Prison Service, and Immigration Department to pass their E.I.s (extended interviews.)
I utilise many teaching methods and practices in my teaching to ensure that as many students as possible are as engaged and interested as possible, because that's where the learning happens.
As I travel a lot, if I'm temporarily unable to provide in-person classes then I will offer online classes at a reduced rate or supply another qualified teacher as a substitute.
All materials are provided by Barlow English and there are no hidden costs.
I've also been giving tutorials online since 2019, and have a wealth of teaching materials at my disposal to ensure that online classes are engaging, fun, rewarding, and productive.
Online classes can be provided through a number of online platforms which I leave to the students/parents' choice, including Skype, Teams, Meet, and Zoom.
Most services that can be offered in-person can be offered online at a cheaper rate.
And of course, online services can be offered globally, no matter where you are.
As I travel a lot, I personally prefer online classes logistically, as it means that I can help more students in less time, and I use the same materials in both delivery methods.
All materials are provided by me and there are no hidden costs.
In person or online, my classes are mostly identical as I utilise ICT, apps, audio and video in all my teaching. The only real difference is whether I'm virtually there, or really there. And of course the price, as teaching online reduces expenses so I'm able to offer lower rates.
Classes are one hour.
Online classes have a 20 second pause halfway through where we exercise our eyes by looking away from the screen and at various physical objects around us. This is to prevent eyestrain from prolonged computer screen use. If your schools are still running classes online, make sure they're giving you this break every 20-30 minutes, it only takes 20 seconds and can save your eyesight.
Some students only have one class per week, others have more. I recommend at least two per week as it greatly improves knowledge retention, but it also depends on how much the student practises between classes.
No. As I utilise ICT and apps, the classes are conducted on my laptop, even when I'm there in person, and students and parents can have screenshots of what we've done for checking and revision purposes.
For in-person classes, nothing but a little enthusiasm.
For online, I recommend a computer (desktop or laptop is preferred, though some students cope with a tablet or even smart phone,) a suitable headset (over ear headsets are better to reduce noise and distractions around you,) and a mouse (though a mousepad is okay for most things, but not the computer coding course.)
Yes, as well as having access to screenshots of the work done, I can also provide an in-depth lesson review about what the lesson covered, material we used, and the performance of the student based on several criteria, giving them a rating from 1 to 9.
In addition to that, for online classes students and/or parents can also request a video of the the class, and/or a transcript of the whole lesson.
This provides a wealth of material for students to use for revision, whilst also let's parents know and understand what we're covering each class and how their child is performing.
